Boot Rooms: Tips and Ideas from Expert Designers
If taken correctly, boot rooms can be bespoke as well as resonate a sense of audacity. Why not have a space that symbolises a rustic walk in the countryside, or a space that exemplifies your fineness amidst the urban clan, or to store your sports sneakers. So why not think of a humble room that best portrays your personality. Let's discuss ideas for boot rooms.
In Britain, Boot rooms are more than just practical spaces. They are historically ingrained in Britain’s semi-urban and urban social hang. If you are a busy family who love spending more time outside, love your football, are avid walkers then boot rooms are for you.
Why Boot Rooms?
Be it to store your muddy, messy gears or a bespoke section for your official wear, boot rooms make the perfect outdoor warehouse.
It goes without saying that boot rooms are more than just boot storage units. Be it your British warms, cover coats, a parka or a mackintosh, coats have a definite presence in the UK boot room aura. And what about those scarves, winter gloves or your raincoats? All these add up to the idea of a perfect space to store those little and subtle reflections of your personality.
Boot rooms clean the clutter. Whether from inside of your house or from outside, a dedicated boot room is also a wonderful escape room to get rid of your everyday messy markings.
Where do I Build a Boot Room?
Now that we know what goes into boot rooms, this is where it gets more interesting. Where to build the boot room?
You may probably know this; the most apt of all spaces for a boot room is a space next or at immediate nearness to an entrance or an exit door. This makes it convenient to take off your messy ornaments as soon as you enter the house.
In addition, if you have an unused attached garage, or a small lobby entrance or a porch, think of these as well.

Things to be Included in a Boot Room
From a hardly noticeable and languishing storage unit, a boot room has evolved into a more sophisticated space. The below can be added to make your boot room a more convenient one.
- A rough carpet or a coir mat to take in all your muddy mess and wetness
- Makes sure you have a sink, and a hose tap inside to wash off any dirt/ mess
- A seat or a bench
- An outlet on the floor for water flow
- Wall hangers to hang dirt filled or wet wears (below the water outlet)
Boot Room Ideas
- Go Bespoke Create storage units for each member of your family. This is a simple way to find and store items belonging to them easily. To make it more precise, if you have the budget, you can fit in separate units in the form of fiber baskets or a cane webbing basket with apertures throughout to let space for ventilation.
- Merge it with the Utility In case if you are not that of an outside person, then let your boot room be a simple unit. A bench with a comfy seat with units to store your boots. Pin those coat hooks on a wall or install them on a wooden frame as you can use more top storage space to store other utilities if any.
- Keep it Simple In case if you are not that of an outside person, then let your boot room be a simple unit. A bench with a comfy seat with units to store your boots. Pin those coat hooks on a wall or install them on a wooden frame as you can use more top storage space to store other utilities if any.
- Boot Room in a Garage As discussed earlier, your garage can be that perfect space for a boot room. This makes for an elaborate space, and you can decorate your boot room the way you desire. As there can be too much space, you can blend your utility room into this garage space to make it more convenient and organised. Every element, from boots, coats, kitchen, plumbing and electrical utilities can make their way into this garage converted boot room.
- Dark Toned Room Let the hues inside be dark toned. Let your mess and dirt vanish into the dark as there is little point to advertise your mess inside a boot room. The idea of a boot room could still be an efficient storage room rather than a glowing one. It also adds to the class and elegance.
- Ventilate it Not to lend you contradictory ideas, but if you are a fan of natural light, you can install a velux roof or a glazed roof above your boot room. Windows are of course a must, but installing glazing on the ceiling will offer a distinct charm to your boot room.
- Additional Storage You may have those cupboards and storage baskets around, but if you are a big family, you may need that extra storage space. So, it is always worth considering adding drawers as expanded storage options. Think of storing tools, utilities, hats, stockings, and scarves in these.
- Design a Symmetry If you are a fan of aesthetics, then think of installing cupboards that mirror each other. This way, your things are not only in order, but they also look neat, organised and pleasing to the eye.
