Double Storey Extension in Croydon
Extension Architecture were appointed to extend a client’s family home in order to create more space and suit his busy family lifestyle. The property is a semi-detached house in South Norwood. Located in a residential area, the client wanted to create a large dining and kitchen area as well as improve the living space for his growing family. The proposed design idea was initially brought to us by the client due to a neighbour along the road extending their house by two storeys, which supported the planning application since it acted as a set precedent.
Throughout the project we communicated the project and our design intentions through a mixture of CAD drawings, hand sketches and 3D visuals. In order to communicate our ideas for the interior design and internal reconfiguration of the house, we created interior renders which, helped the client to understand the internal space they had and what was achievable.
The facade of the proposed extension was designed by using the existing bay windows as a reference point for the mirror reflection line, creating an asymmetrical form. The challenge for this project was to propose a design that was of a modern standard whilst ensuring that the character of the existing property remained intact. Neutral tones to match the existing finish materials were used in order for the proposal to remain sympathetic to the existing house and the neighbouring properties.
